Sake exports reach a record high

Sake Samurai is excited to report that sake is becoming increasingly popular outside Japan, and the export of sake has reached a record high in its history. Boosted by the popularity of Japanese cuisine, sake exports have increased in each of the last five years, and in 2014 sake exports surged by 9.3%, reaching an annual value of 11.5 billion yen. The U.S is the largest overseas market, followed by Korea, Taiwan and China. In Europe the UK is the biggest market, although it accounts for just 2% of total world exports. However, expectations for the UK sake market are very strong, as London is known as the world capital of the wine business, is the centre for international media, and is therefore the most influential city for worldwide sake promotion.
